Red Apple smoked cheeses may be processed cheeses, they are made from natural cheese, and in this case real bourbon. The Hickory Smoked Bourbon Gouda is made with milk sourced from some of the oldest dairy farms in Chippewa County, Wisconsin. The cheeses have a lower sodium content than other similar cheeses yet still full of flavor.
In order to get the right smoky flavor to the gouda cheese, the cheese masters cold-smoke each piece of cheese for 6 hours using a special aged apple pulp and hardwood. This happens after the aging process.
Hickory Smoked Bourbon Gouda is widely used in Mac & Cheese, in fruit salads or one of many cheese on a cheese board.
