Sequatchie Cove Cheese

The Sequatchie Cove Creamery is nestled in a cove on the floor of the picturesque Sequatchie Valley, in Tennessee and produces farmstead cheese using time-honored European traditions with a distinctly Southern flair.

The cheeses are made using the raw milk from cows who spend every waking moment on grass, letting the expression of the land shine through in its flavors. Fresh forage, sunlight, Tennessee mountain air, a good bit of science, and a dash of artistry are the tools the people working on Sequatchie Farm rely on daily.

The creamery and milking herd are located on a beautiful 300 acre and owned and operated by Bill and Miriam Keener and their family. Every morning and evening the mostly Jersey and Jersey/Holstein crosses (along with splashes of Milking Devon and Tarentaise) are brought in from the pastures to be milked, rain or shine.

The creamery is 100 percent solar powered and strives to be as sustainable as possible. Our biggest waste product, whey, is fed to Sequatchie Cove's woodlot pigs. The cheeses of the creamery are all made everyday using the freshest raw cow's milk produced directly on the farm. Every step is painstakingly taken to ensure safety, quality, and an expression of the local "terroir", which to us is very much a Savoie of the South.

Our Featured Sequatchie Cove Cheese
Picture of cumberland cheese

This farmstead cheese from the Tennessee mountains is exceedingly lovely, and will appeal to most cheese eater's tastes.

A mild 'farmhouse style' cheese, Cumberland is a firm cheese, buttery and smooth with notes of buttermilk. It has the aroma of hay and dried leaves, representing the mountain farm in Tennessee where it's made. It's truly an artisanal cheese, made by hand with traditional methods from raw milk, which creates more complex flavors.

This is essentially a 'table cheese' meant to be easily enjoyed for any occasion, and easy to pair, cook, or serve. Try with pears, nuts, or fruit preserves. It's wonderful with a dry white wine.

We hand-cut and wrap this gourmet cheese in wedge of 1 pound and 8 ounces. You can also purchase the entire wheel of approx. 4 pounds.
