This Scandinavian classic, pronounced 'YAY-toast' is a traditional breakfast cheese. Made from the whey of the cheesemaking process, Gjetost is the result of the sugars in milk being heated until caramelized. This cheese is brown like caramel and very sweet.
It’s often sliced thinly with a cheese plane, and served on hearty toast for a sweet and salty treat. Notably good with coffee. Also try on grilled cheese, fondue, or waffles.
